Sunshine (Sumana)
Bengaluru
In April 2021, as Covid started to peak across India, I also came in its thrall. That night I was admitted to a government hospital in an emergency. When I woke up the next morning, all I wanted was to run out into the sun. It was unusual. I had never craved for sunlight like I did during those eight days in hospital. It was visceral. My skin and soul longed for sunlight. I had the urge to hold sunlight in my hand and drink it like water.
The moment I left the hospital, the first thing I did was look up towards the sun and tears flowed freely. Thereafter through the months of recovery, I healed, soaking in the warmth of the sun in ways I had never done before.
So here I am, adding sunlight to the Covid time capsule.
